So I’ll keep this simple.
I am a Product Line Manager for Occam Networks, a Broadband Access and Aggregation technology company. Odds are you’ve never heard of us, and once you stumble away from this blog never will again. But we provide critical technolgoy to telecom companies that are watching their business dry up as people have fewer home telephone lines and cable internet gets faster.
Occam is a technology-forward company in a slow-moving industry. We see where the industry is going, and want to bring our customers there first.
At the time of this writing I am in charge of Optical Components & Splitters, as well as Business Tools. I write and maintain custom software to provide our company with the kinds of internal communication and transparency it needs (in my opinion) to succeed. I code primarily in Ruby on Rails, because it is one of the few languages I don’t want to jab my eye out after working on. Plus, it’s what I worked most heavily with in my former life as a developer and project manager in custom enterprise software.
